The Atakapas were a Native American tribe that lives along the coast of southwest Louisiana and southeast Texas. They were called cannibals by Spanish explorers, but were not.

As with most Native Americans, history books and Anglo tradition have not treated them well.

The tribe has given us many things, Cajun dishes taso and oyster pie. If you have never heard of either, we are sure you have heard of something else they gave us, zydeco music.
