Farmersville and the surrounding area was once the "Onion Capital of Texas" This is one of several sheds that the onions were shipped by rail from. Both the ATSF "Santa Fe" and MKT "Katy" served Farmersville.

With consolidation of railroads, now only KCS -Kansas City Southern- serves Farmersville, and while there is a short spur, it is not used very often.

The Onion Shed is still used for local events, each month there is a Farmers/Flea market held there on the first Saturday.
