A short distance from our home is a small cemetery known by many names. It is the Lavon Park cemetery, the Lakeside Cemetery, but it's oldest designation is the Abston Cemetery. It was named for a gentleman that lived in the area who came to north Texas after serving as a soldier in our new nation's Revolution.
Unlike many cemeteries in rural areas, it is very well maintained.
The cemetery is atop a hill that will be covered with bluebonnets in just a few weeks.
There are a few old markers, as well as new markers. Most notable are many of these plain white crosses that designate that an unknown person is buried at this site. Many are former slaves.
