Chretian Point was built in 1831 on a Spanish land grant dated 1776. It is off the "beaten path" (I-49) near Sunset. It was the center of a 3000 acre cotton plantation.
The Civil War Battle of Carrion Crow Bayou was located on the plantation. This battle was re-enacted several times. While most plantations were burned, US General Nathaniel Banks decided to spare the beautiful place.
The interior staircase was used as the model for the "Tara" plantation in the epic movie Gone With the Wind.
It was open as a bed and breakfast, but is now a private residence and is not open to the public. It is reported to be haunted. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
