This is a nice little gun. I have not fired this gun yet, haven't purchased ammo for it yet. However I do have several other Makarovs that are great guns. They have a bit of a kick because they are a blow back design but nothing unbearable. As far as it goes with your particular gun being safe, that is not for me to say, I would recommend having it checked out by a gunsmith if you are not sure. As far as it goes with the value you might want to check out places like gunbroker and auction arms to get an idea on the value. You should also check out some of the many gun forums such as Glocktalk.com and makarov.com for all the information you could ask for. Good luck with the gun and post some pictures of it.
