The "officer's boat"

While in the Mediterranean some of my fellow officers brought their wives from the USA for a visit. As an aside, the officer in civilian clothes is leading. Protocol was such that the officer went first up the gangway to the ship. The gangway on a carrier is about 20 feet high and the wife,and babies on occasion, were expected to do this on their own.
