This is the village of Barolo, Piemonte, Italy. It is famous for its rich, dark and wonderfully aromatic wine made from the Nebbiolo grape.
After working on a transaction codenamed "Project Barolo", I made a point of visiting the village on my next holiday. It is surrounded by rolling hills planted almost entirely with grapes, and small castles dot the hilltops.
We stayed at a vineyard (Brezza) and, not surprisingly, left with a couple of cases of Barolo. I would recommend a trip to any fan of Italian wine.
