There were two days a year when the position of the sun could not be calculated on the Samrat Yanta. These were on the dates of the vernal and autumnal equinoxes. The Dakshino Bhitti Yantra served the same function as the Shastansha Yantra on those days. The instrument is another example of the extreme care taken to ensure the accuracy of the astrological measurements.
