I have a muskrat in my pond, here in Fort Collins, Colorado!! At first I thought it was a beaver till I saw it closer!!!

I have a muskrat living in my chicken coop. It has burrowed into the hay-straw mixture on the ground and my chickens do not come off of their roost pole. Is it harmful to my chickens? I thought I had boarded up the area it was getting in, obviously I must look closer. I live in Grass Lake, Michigan and we do have a swamp about 100 yards from the chicken coop. I know they live in the swamp, was surprised one is living on land so far from the swamp.

I have noticed a muskrat in my chicken coop apparently making a nest in the deep hay-straw mixture on the ground. Have shooed it away--thought I took care of the way it was getting into the coop--obviously not as it was back again this morning. Doesn't seem aggressive toward the chickens, however, they are scared of anything foreign in their coop. Will it harm the chickens?

Larry....You've got to be in the right spot at the right time. I spend countless hours searching for the right spot...and then I wait for the time to be right!

Linda yesterday I saw a muskrat for the first time. It was in the grass next to a ravine. At first I thought it was a groundhog until I saw it's long skinny tail. It looked just like the picture. Thanks for the confirmation!

In a creek next to my house I can get within feet of these little guys. Maybe I get some better pitures for everyone.

There is a pond 3 blocks from my house that has about 4 of these muskrats.

How can I get in touch with the owner of this photo? This is one of the best shots I have ever seen of a Muskrat in the wild.

These are quite common in Texas but I have never seen one. Excellent shot with sharp detail. Voted. I see the rat tail clearly.

Actually...you are seeing a clear spot in the water beyond the tail. There is no duckweed covering it. See how the skinny "rat-like" tail loops up over the cattail stalk. It's truly a Muskrat, but I can see how the eye can be fooled in the photo. Good Observation!!!
