A crystal ball caught my attention and pulled me back into the room
when I got up to go make coffee.
This one reminded me sometimes of Laura's crystal balls
of many sizes and colors and innards
but now I feel compelled to touch.
This time last spring
she was facing death
and often defiantly ignoring it.
I thought then that I would like to give her,
at my birthday celebration, an expression of my gratitude
for her sunny, heartfull sharing of our glory years,
a tribute to her life and her contribution to mine.
She was too ill,
but rallied at the idea of spending some of the summer
sharing an exploration of the pyramids of Egypt.
I wonder what she is exploring now,
beyond the limitations of flesh.
I look deep into this crystal ball
and try to see into a bubble
to find whether she can see as well
back from the other side.

Now I want to locate a photo of the crystal ball
that I had seen and felt when Dr. Ray Brown
told us so vividly of his experience retrieving it
from an undersea pyramid in the Bermuda Triangle.
What had been within my grasp
now seems almost an urban legend.*
I must tell my own recollection
of the facts,
as I recall them.

... by the way ...
What you see outside the ball is not absence of background,
it is the illuminated fog.
