Not many people even knew about this location until recently. It was not on maps and officials did not tell tourists about it. It was considered a protected Native American ruin and was being studied.
Word got out and soon after vandals got in and damaged the site, forcing the Park Service to close the site from visitation.
I was lucky to visit the place twice about 5 years ago was overwhelmed by the feeling of looking out over the desert landscape from under the rock alcove. Having hiked in alone and being very careful not to disturb the rock enclosure while taking some photos, I was struck the beauty of the view and eerie and almost spooky emotions I experienced.
