Remembering my Grandpa.

Building a one-room cabin on his homestead claim, he raised a family during the dark days of the depression. His family endured many hardships, and yet they all rejoiced to have grown up in hard times. I think it made them appreciate what little they had.

This old horse-drawn grain drill reminds me of the stories he used to tell me of old times. I wish I could listen again.

Shot with a Sony A6000 90 minutes after sunset in a mountain meadow above Provo Canyon Utah. A small head lamp added light to the foreground and subject.

I'd like to add that in terms of the American landscape, we seem to be seeing fewer and fewer places like this that are relatively unchanged: rural and urban. My grandfather was a poor fisherman who lived on Block Island, off the coast of Rhode Island. Hard life and not much money. Today, however, land prices are upwards of a million dollars. Evidently same thing for land in the mountains, with ski resorts, etc. From lands of poverty to lands of millionaires.

Compliments on your creative approach to telling the story visually. Making the image in daylight would give an ordinary image. However, this picture puts the visual emphasis on the grain drill, and also in beautiful color, places it in its historic background. Excellent! As great as the image is, it wouldn't be as good if it didn't have that bright star. And both the star and the drill are in a corner thirds of the image. A real work of art.
