A very dominant stallion my son named 'The Guardian' shows signs having survived the harsh winter. Even with the snow melting, there is a lack of forage for the herds. This particular stallion also has a very large harem of mares; much of his energy is spent in protecting his interest as the breeding male, chasing away challenging males leaves little time to eat. You can see his ribs along his side.
