That could certainly have a bit of a sci-fi vibe to it - nowhere to run. Nice found repetition too, especially like the way the figures get smaller in perfect pattern to the right to emphasize the depth.
I can explain this, the carved statues are covered to protect them from water moisture, which if absorbed by the stone, will expand in volume slightly as it is frozen. This expansion will in turn cause the surface of the stone to break down and crumble away.
But yes, I like the surreal element to this shot, and even the juxtapostion expressed in its title.
