Hello, Ironic. I saw where you had asked for comments, so I will toss in mine as a starter.
Welcome to the fun and the competition!
Evening shots are tough. In your shot, the light is "flat." There are a number of ways to correct that. The first is to shoot a bit earlier when there is still a fading ray of sun around to glisten on the water or shine on the ducks. But - what you have is workable too. Get some software (PhotoShop Elements is easy to use, yet powerful once you learn some of the tricks). With it you could add some contrast to this shot - give it some "pop."
You also might want to crop it. Your subject is the ducks, but they are too small. Use your software to take off most of the right side of your picture. That will put your ducks on the right side of the shot, with the little grass tassock leading the eyes towards the ducks. You might want to crop some water off the top and bottom too - but not too much.
Once you're through, post it back on the KT Talk forum on dpreview - the folks there are more than helpful.
