Hobart, Tasmania. Australia

For those unfamiliar with cricket, the ball is travelling between 90 and 150 kph and is bounced off the "pitch" before arriving to the batsman. The shot was taken with an Olympus TCON-17 on the A2 giving an equivalent of 340mm

Thanks Richard. South Africa in green and Sri Lanka in blue. Sri Lanka won and has gone on to play Australia in the best of three finals. Sri Lanka ahead one nil. I do like a bit of saturation, paticularly when there are bright colours involved. In this case, I think it helps the players leap out a bit and dominate the picture.

Cheers,
Ron

Great capture - excellent timing! Good composition, the players fill out the frame nicely. The colors are a little on the vivid side for me, but just my personal taste.

BTW, just curious who is playing? I live in the US now, but grew up in England and watch a game on the box every now and then.

Cheers,
Richard.

Thanks Bob. I tried your recommendation and it does make the ball more "lively" and more integrated. Shutter lag didn't bother me much. I took 22 shots and most caught the ball somewhere between bowler (pitcher) and batsman. The trick was to shoot the moment the bowler entered the frame. By the time the shutter released, the ball was on its way.
Cheers,
Ron

Ron,
I don't know a thing about cricket, but you seem to have captured all the key elements in a nicely framed shot. I like the saturation of the colors and frozen moment in time.
The only thing I might try (because of the rich colors) is to boost the levels a bit in the ball. This would have to be done at pixel level with a low tolerance in the selection (wouldn't want to blow out the motion blur) - I gave it a quick shot in PS and it just gave a bit more pop to ball.
Good capture - you seem to have the hang of dealing with shutter lag ;)
