I agree that more cropping would be better after trying some following your suggestions, although I couldn't work out how to remove the hand effectively, as I think I prefer the whole mirror being seen.
This was taken after a day of driving around shooting and I looked up from the back seat to notice that the driver was clearly seen in the mirror. I had my 100-300mm and I just snapped the shot.
I'm going to have to experiment with some more post processing now that you've both got me thinking :-)

Nice idea, but I'm not so sure about the hand. As is, I think it's too bright and draws your attention away from the subject. I'd be tempted to get rid of it all together.
Veronica's comments made me think - this is a cool setup with lots of interesting possibilities. Gave me a couple of things I want to try out (not for this comp of course) to try to set a different mood.
