5th: homecoming - niamh

this was shot in Glen Coe in the Scottish Highlands, the deep valley in which
Government troops led by Robert Campbell murdered 38 members of the MacDonald
clan in 1692.
History too has its ups and downs...

update: 01 october - updated image to retain more detail in the sky, cropped
image slightly at top.

other sizes: small medium original auto

THis is a great photo for all the aforementioned reasons.
ALso , I really appreciate pics captured from a moving vehicle.
I am having fun doing this as well.
Very well done to see this image and catch it quickly.

Just a beauty, niamh. The little house really brings out the grandeur of the scene.

thank you very kindly for your comments john claudio and adrian. glad you like the cropped
version. this was a grab shot out of a car window moving at about 50mph through Glen Coe.
i only had a few seconds to grab the shot before the car passed it by so this has a lot to do
with sheer luck that it doesn't have any motion blur and the focusing was able to lock on!

wonderful capture here Niamh - i do really miss seeing more of your work - this one looks like the proverbial 'birds-eye' view, no doubt a function of that wide angle glass u have. Every element of the image works - the clouds perfectly matching in texture the bulk of the mountain, and then the small small structure to anchor the eye. /\ namaste. adrianox

Great incongruence of scale! I did not see the original, but the cropping here is spot on

Lovely capture Niamh, excapsulating both high and low areas as features of the up and down theme. I like the understated house there, along with the lines of the landscape, including the shore of the stream, framing the elements artistically. The sky looks about right to me to balance the rest of the scene. Great photo. Cheers, John

thanks for your kind words Alain... anyone think I should crop a bit of the sky out?

Beautiful landscape, Niamh. Superb contrast of the small white house 'looking up' the dark mountain.
