Actually I have to disagree with John DU - I rather like the "stark", almost montage effect, the way the flower is so disassociated from its background. It makes for a more unusual image IMHO. :)

Actually the stark / blackness look was what I was kinda attempting to achive - but my inexperience in PS shows - I blew out the rose a little as you noticed:-) - but we are having fun playing and learning:-)

Hi Dru,
Your pic is pleasant enough, but perhaps a bit too stark against the engulfing blackness, especially as the flower is a bit overexposed from the right. What else was present in the original? Was there scope to show a bit of subtle detail, even if only to blend it into the background as you get further from the flower?
