Flying Tiger by Jack Grouell

I have had an image in my mind’s eye for some time: a black and white photo of a nostalgic subject but with a little color added to highlight its most distinguishing feature. It all came together when I was able to photograph a beautifully restored AVG (Flying Tigers) P-40 and, thanks to Photoshop Elements 2 and JDU’s encouragement, add a touch of color to the famous shark mouth.

Great thought here; you certainly did pick the fiercest aspect to enhance! I like it.

Hi Jack,
Nicely done and good choice. I'm glad you didn't prove me wrong about how easy it is to do the technical part of this process. The trick, as always, is then the artistic part of capturing and presenting the result. I would prefer to see you straighten the horizon. However, you have provided a photo that is nice and simple, but interesting and evocative of times that were more full on, with the coloured mouth nicely bringing focusing to that idea. I quite like your effort here. Good job.
Cheers, John
