Madeleine at breakfast by Dana Nau

This picture has a somewhat convoluted history. My sister-in-law took a photo of my niece eating breakfast, and my wife commissioned a painter, Robert Lemar, to make a painting based on the photo. Once the painting was done, I took a photo of it. That's what's displayed here.

Thanks, niamh! Unlike you, I interpreted her expression to be the kind of reverie that occurs when one is either alone or is lost in thought. Thus for me, it seemed like a good fit for the theme of the challenge. However, since I wasn't there at the time, I can't say for sure which of our interpretations is the correct one.

Hi - it's very rare for me to go for a kids' shot but I like the idea of a "picture of a picture" and for me it makes this image stand out. I am not sure I get a strong sense of "alone" because the child seems to be looking/interacting with someone/something out of frame, i.e. not to be alone. Nice idea though.
