Ah...that explains the halo.

Some answers to questions/comments about the photo: 1) I often use triangles in compostion to provide a path for the eye. In this shot, the pier in the sea provides strong lines to lead the eye out of shot, so the position of the bird was chosen to triangulate the breaking wave and the couple, keeping the eye within the frame. I didn't use a perfectly symetrical triangle though, since that would look contrived. 2) In the original shot, the couple were clearly separate. I blurred them together to emphasize their 'one-ness' under the huge empty sky. It actually makes them look more alone I think.

Good picture...but why is there a black halo around the couple?

Took me a while to appreciate this picture. The vagueness of it turned me off at first, the blur of the couple as well as the stucture in the water. The sky is powerful and the bird just the right size. Further right for the bird may have been better, but this is getting picky! Well done.

What an awesome image. I can't think of anything that would make it better! Kudos.

Tim, it's a great photo. I actually quite like the double ‘alone’ metaphor here – a couple on the beach is also alone. I do support Claudio's suggestion - I'm sure that 900x318 (if not more?) is perfectly acceptable? IMHO, that would really help this photo to 'come to light'...
Best... Mihajlo

Hi Tim,

I like the framing and composition, and the mood of this shot. The slighly visibles God's rays with the bird in silhouette make the theme. I'm not so sure about the 2 persons on the beach.... but it's really to small to appreciate it (panorama can be longer than 800).
