Went back this morning and tried some more images. I used my Nikon 80-400m with a Kenko 1.4x teleconverter to try and get as close as possible. I also shot in jpeg rather than NEF so I could shoot more frames. That is the reason for the poor image quality. I spent about two hours there. Met one of the nearby residents and he informed that there are several yellow headed blackbirds who nest in the cattails every spring. So I will be back to this spot.
