BREN GUN MK2 STOCK

Began this stock Feb 2004. Its in Pretty good shape actually other than the cosmoline. Theres a few dings that will have to be taken care of but it looks pretty good so far. I will begin with a varsol and or mineral spirits bath. I usually leave them in the solution for a week or so to remove all the cosmoline. It also helps in the staining process and allows for a smooth and full application of the stain similiar to a primer.
The pistol grip is another story and has a large chip out of it and will take some work. It as well will be left in the solution.

It was finally completed and I really liked the results. I blued the metal and got good results with the wood.

It sold on Ebay rather quickly

I will also do a stock in Boiled Lindseed oil if requested but it will take a bit longer to do it right. I will also offer Tung oil finishes as well.

the amount of stain used depends on the look you want and the stock itself. you can sand it either dry or wet doesnt matter. Using tru oil is also a pain in the ass it dries so fast I mostly use boiled lindseed oil now.

Mark, What method do you use to remove the dents from your stock?? Your Bren wood looks great!!! Thanks, Eric

I used minwax Red Mohagany oil stain. If the stock had more dents and scrapes I could not have removed I would have went with a darker stain. I then put on about 5 coats of Tru oil rubbed in with a lint free cloth. I then used fine steel wool afterwards to remove some of the gloss. I usually prefer to use Boiled Lindseed oil now and alcohol based stains. To see what Lindseed oil work looks like have a look at the MKI buttstock restoration.

It is a truly beautiful job. may I ask what stain you used after the varsol bath. And how many coats did you apply? Mark
