I travelled to Haines, Alaska, in November to specifically photograph the bald eagles in Chilkat Valley. Due to thermal activities, the Chilkat river does not freeze or freeze later in the winter and there is a late chum salmon run. This attracts the bald eagles from as far away as British Columbia, Washington and Oregon. In November - January, this is the world's largest gathering of bald eagles. At the time of my visit, the latest count was about 1000 bald eagles -- feeding in the Chilkat Valley.
