My husband and I just got back from Antartica 1 week ago. I was really wanting the Drake
Passage experice in its full frenzy. Guess what - we got the "Drake Lake" - smooth as glass. The trip back through the Drake was slightly rough. Guess I will have to go back and try again!!

No matter how much you read to bone up of the crossing, words are just inadequate for the amount of turbulance, rock and roll, and in general the feeling of what it must feel to be a strawberry in a blender. We were there in January 2006. The crosing to Antarctica was undescribably rough, and the journey back was bad, but tolerable. We never got sick, but we took our lives in our hands just to try to manuver about the ship. Would we do it again? Probably not. Are we glad we did? You betcha! It was one of the greatest experiences we have had!

I have been fasinated with the Drake Passage for sometime and came across your site while Googling it. Two of the pictures look ominous and scary just the way they ought to look. Thanks for sharing your pics. I will look forward to experiencing the 'Drake Shake' myself someday.
