Our first glimpse of Caana
Caana - Sky Place
Set in remote, thick jungle
Us in front of Caana
We climb to the top - 141 feet - completed in AD800 but it's still the tallest building in Belize
Part way up, looking back down
At the top there is a small plaza with more structures
A wee lizard
At the top we can see over the jungle treetops
Top of Caana - temple
Top of Caana - temples and Royal compound
Heading back down
Big, steep steps
Masks on structure in Plaza B
Mask on either side of the structure
Detailed carving
Glyphs
Ball Court with markers on the ground
Structures all around - 70sq miles but only a small area excavated
Intricate carvings
Carvings on stelae
Carving
Temple of the Wooden Lintel - original wood!
Doorway
Plaza A
Can you see Jackie? Look near the top
Can you see Pete?
There he is - on the Temple of the Wooden Lintel
Plaza A
Bird and several hanging nests (sorry can't remember it's name)
