I've been playing around with cameras since my early teens, but only became a true hobbyist since mid-2004. I'm a proud owner of a Nikon D70 and in 2008 added a Nikon D300 to my arsenal. As of Jan 13, 2010 I am a proud owner of a Nikon D3s, my first full frame DSLR, after studying the amazing results from the grandmaster of nature photography, Moose Peterson. I am currently living in Hong Kong. I am a student of master Hong Kong photographer Felix So and have been adviced from panorama specialist Yu Guang Ming from Hangzhou, China. Currently, I've been taking courses with eco-specialist and wildlife photographer Samson So. I am very keen on continuing upgrading various aspects of my photography skills. My main interests in Landscape, Architecture, and Photojournalism, hoping one day to enter the ranks of people I admire greatly, such as Moose Peterson, Chase Jarvis, and Vincent Munier. I would be delighted to hear from you, so please leave comments and critiques.

Photos prior to May 2004 were taken with my old Sony Cybershot (3 megapixel P&S cannon), which was equally lacking for taking photos as it was recording videos, although the lens was fabulous.
Photos prior to 2000 were taken with my even older Canon EOS 500(Kiss in Japan, Rebel XS in the US), developed by numerous 1hr photo places, scanned with a Canon MP830 Combo Inkjet/Scanner/Fax and fixed in PS.

Anyways, the past 2 sundays I finally got some night hiking in and it was tiring as hell, and although this last one was raining like crazy, we got to see several snakes, geckos and quite a few amphibs, so that was amazing. Didn't take as many photos as I would've liked but they should be up in the next week or so.

back in Hong Kong again after yet another 3 week semi-working trip to Hangzhou to help my sister's kids get settled into their new school. back in my apartment, i've just realized all the photos and negatives i brought back from my Vancouver trip, as well as those i have laying around in Hong Kong. i went out and picked up an Epson V330 scanner and am in the process of setting it up right now, which gave me a bit of time to finally update this page a little. hopefully, i can find something worthwhile to upload once scanning is underway.

oh right, i'll also need to update the setup table... my D-Lux 4 has been sold for several months now, and I've only recently bought a Canon G12. during the May travels i was lucky to borrow 2 camera from friends, a S90 and a G10 that's been modified for IR photography, and I must say I'm very impressed with the G10's overall versatility and ergonomics, not to mention picture quality is not bad for a DC. the vari-angle screen makes the G12 even more friendly for me when i go on macro-photography hikes. I might even be tempted to buy another one just for switching to IR.

on a somewhat unrelated note: do not buy Samsung hard drives! or LaCie for that matter as i recently had a HD die on me after i was using it to switch files for backing up my NAS. most of my 2010 photos are now stuck inside a drive with a failed chip, and hopefully the guys at DBTronix can help me get it out. after googling the drive specs, i've found that this Samsung harddrive series is very prone to overheating and burning out the chip that has to do with the power supply. sad thing is, this garbage HD is inside a LaCie D2 Quadra, and the harddrive looks used, and probably is a refurbished drive. that really makes me wonder what "shell makers" like LaCie put inside their nice looking cases. this is just as bad as lead-painted toys.

due to some family duties, I'm traveling quite a bit between July and August to Hangzhou. This will give me time to do some prep work for the upcoming Hangzhou trip in late October where I will be tour guide for a group of photographer friends and I have a commercial shoot here scheduled around the same time.

in the mean time, anyone else around this area feeling the heat? it's 10:30am here and a sizzling 38 degrees. it's been like this for the past 3 days...

Just returned from almost a month long sabbatical. The trip to Venice and Moscow was immensely fun while Vancouver was mostly raining and a lot of work. Photos from both trips will be uploaded when I finish off all the excess duties from work. The dinner banquet for the wedding will be tomorrow, which will showcase a few of my photos but mainly from two other photographers who also went along on the trip. Hopefully I will have their wedding present completed before the end of this month.

May was an exhausting month, and now that I'm back in Hong Kong, I can start working on other photography projects.

10 days left until Venice/Moscow trip!! other than the worries of incomprehension(?) with Russian and Italian, I'm very excited about the trip. hopefully the wedding photos for my friends will come out well. my adjoining Vancouver trip will most likely not allow me to do any editing, so I have only May 18th and June 4th in HK for editing a few photos as well as the video. this will probably mean quite minimal edits and very few photos for show at the dinner banquet. I do hope to get a chance to really make the photos shine later on for their personal photobooks.

got some ideas for upcoming changes to this gallery as well as Facebook and some other stuff. should be interesting. hopefully within the next year or so i could have something realworld for show. it all depends on whether i want to wait for post-Kenya or not.

also prepping up for back to back Venice/Moscow trip mid-May, and Canada/US trip late May to early June.

when you want something really badly and you strive for that goal, most of the time, it will happen. Travelogue 2011: Japan, Venice, Russia, Canada, USA, and that's only until June.

all of the Japan gallery posted, although a week late in respect to the disaster there. i've been busy updating my relatives in Tokyo of outside news and making sure of their safety. although i have a long-standing dislike for the Japanese government, I have much fondness of Japan as a country. it saddens me to see so many people are suffering there while a few ignorant idiots attack Japan as a whole with Sharon Stone-like moronic "karma" remarks. please stay informed and please stay civil.

back from the Japan trip, and it was amazing. the only sad part was that 10 days was too short. LOL. i'm working on the photos now, hopefully it'll all be done in the next week or so. in the mean time, i'll post some finished photos.

1 week until the highly anticipated japan trip, with a still ongoing 4 month worth of constant feverish editing of the itinerary. most recently updated the Kyoto portion with a visit to the Fushimi Inari shrine(伏見稲荷大社) just a few stations south of Kyoto main station. this place has something like a thousand torii (red painted gate-like wooden structures) lined up like a tunnel up the hill. it should be an interesting shooting session...

i just got back from Hangzhou/Changzhou on the 12th, with again very little time for reviewing photos taken. having to help my dad move house this entire week, i guess this CNY will be a week filled with facing the computer 24/7 editing several months worth of photos... one of these days i will consider getting a laptop that's capable of running Lightroom, my netbook right now is merely a harddrive with a screen.

it's the last month of 2010, and i just realized i only have 8 galleries up for this year, and that's hardly the amount i've got on my NAS. anyways, hopefully, before Dec 22's trip up to HZ again, i hope to have a few more galleries up, and possibly updating the annuals as well. i do wonder how much time will there be for shooting during this trip as it's mainly a family visit and HZ is quite devoid of colour and life in winter. maybe i'll switch to street photog, who knows. anything is possible in photography, which is why i love it so much.

it's about time i actually have a real holiday, since my last was Guilin in April and that was only a weekend excursion at best. my japan trip has been planned well, and i only have the car booking and a few minor location booking to do before the actual trip during the last week of january, directly before the Chinese New Years (Feb 3). all participants are very excited by now, indicative of how amazing this trip will be for all of us. hopefully we will have some great photos to show for when we return much satiated with great scenery and delicious japanese food.

1 day left until the revised deadline for this year's Nikon Photo Contest International. I'm almost done with the selection process (down to 8 shots now). will finish tomorrow after several chores are completed.

It's been a while since last post. This summer has been quite hectic, with a large event job in June, several more night trips into the forests of Hong Kong in July and August, and taking my nephew around tourist spots. I've been in Hangzhou since the beginning of September, and will be returning on the 26th for our annual FSPAA gallery event from the 27th to 29th at the TST Cultural Center. Hopefully I should be able to post all the photos from this summer in early October because things will once again get hectic from mid October onwards, with at least 3 upcoming trips: Hainan in November, back again to Hangzhou in December, and a big Japan trip in January. Maybe I should consider a better laptop and photo editing gear next time I'm here in Hangzhou because there was quite a bit of wasted spare time during this trip when I wasn't working, and this upcoming last week here will be filled with photo and video work.

ps. there's also the Canon Photo Marathon and a butterfly photo competition in early October, so those should fill my remaining time slots quite nicely.

another hike last Sunday and one coming this Sunday. it's dragonfly season, so i'll be out shooting insects quite a bit. a boat shoot coming saturday, and another HZ trip coming early next month. along with other work, this leaves so little time for editing... i need to find a way to refine my methods even more... working on it. lucky today's a bit free until dragonfly lecture tonight, so i should have something up in a few hours time...

went on a back-breaking hike at night on a local mountain called Mui Tsz Lam(梅子林) in Ma On Shan Country Park, back breaking because i'm quite out of shape(fat and smoking), and even my Vargas can't handle 230lbs on slippery rocks and mud paths in extreme low light conditions with occasional flashlights and strobes flashing into my eyes. stupid me, from hurrying to meet up, i mistook my 70-200 f2.8 for my 150mm f2.8 macro, so i was stuck with a crappy 100cm min. focal distance, and forgot my flash!! such amateur mistakes, i deserve those slips and twists in the mud. even through all that, it was fun, listening to all the sounds from crickets to cicadas to birds to frogs in near pitch black and seeing fireflies on a mountain no more than 2km from a metropolis of lights and smog. photos coming soon...

to mid July 2004 now... progress is a little slow as i'm fixing and uploading individual photos replacing the original, you can tell by the different watermark banner i'm using in the new ones, and also deleting a bunch that i really don't like. some of the ones i've kept for now are for guideline purposes, explaining places to family and friends. once all of 2004 have been completed, i'll then compile the 2004 annuals, not much worth going in so far, even though i've traveled quite a bit in the bottom half of that year.

back from a quick relaxing trip to Guilin. lots of rain, so photog is a little more difficult, but it's good for the locals since they've been hit by a pretty long dry spell. we traveled through Shenzhen airport this time, and it's a lot more physically tiring with an almost midnight 50min flight, then taxi to China border, then shuttle to HK border (post midnight only Huanggang border crossing is open, which is a bitch), then taxi back to HK, arriving at home around 2:30am, carrying a boatload of stuff without a car.

having almost all carry-on luggage was a mistake on our part, because it's our first time trying out a mainland Chinese travel agency, www.ctrip.com, which our semi-tour arrangements were exceptional in all considerations, from the varieties of customization in booking online, to their phone-in confirmations of every step of our travel plans, to the flexibility of the trip schedule itself, and their excellent attitude. my mental fatigue is back down to zero, and i think i have some great shots and definitely had a good time in a place i've never been to before with an agency i've never used before.

very tired now, just winding down watching Eureka and about to go to sleep. i should have some photos up tomorrow or Monday, and back to work on Tuesday. i hope everyone is having a great Easter/Qingming holiday~~

been studying and learning a lot about various techniques and workflows in post processing... i have a lot of photos ready for upload but once again i'm back in HZ for a few days for my dad's 70th birthday, so i will be back in HK next week and i'll start uploading some of it... also a Guilin trip coming up end of this month, and i'm officially moving back to HZ around end of April with possibly another flight back to HK for a job in mid June, so lots of flying back and forth... hopefully i can take a few photos for myself in between.

in Hangzhou until Feb 6. I'll be doing some nearby sightseeing with family here, so in 2 weeks time when I'm back in Hong Kong on a decent computer, I should have a load of photos up. DSL here is half-decent at most times since I'm based not in the city, but closer to the tea-growing rural regions south of HZ.

Just went to visit my grandparent's(mother's side) grave in Suzhou, then dinner with some relatives in Wuxi, so it's mostly travelling by car today(about 530km worth of travelling). We might head to Haining tomorrow, weather permitting.

D3s rocks. I was testing out 6400ISO in the car on the highway heading back, without any streetlamps. I'll see if I can post some jpg results in the next day or two. Right now my butt is in need of some exercise from sitting in a car all day, so I'm just loading photos onto my netbook while doing some crunches, then going to sleep.

the high ISO range above 25600 are at most for web previewing, and are mostly unacceptable for print, unless colour contrast is high, which would reduce noise. unfortunately high colour contrast photo opportunities are very difficult at night, and there are some square grids of noise in the RAW files. of course, the NR is quite well behaved so far at normal setting. i will be doing some more tests of the 3 NR settings under different situations.

Finally my D3s has arrived, after waitlisted for over a month. I'll take the new camera out for a spin these next few days and post some trial results. After seeing the shoots from Vincent Munier and Moose Peterson, I cannot help but fall in love with this camera. The price range is just within the limits of what I can afford, and as far as I've seen from numerous trials and tests, it blows the competition out of the water. Before I get a good raincover, I'm still a bit wary of taking it into the humid Hong Kong forests at night, but we'll see.

Other news... I will be returning to work in Hangzhou in around May, and I'll be taking a short trip in about a week from now to check out the new restaurant location, and perhaps check out where to live as well, since it'll be in a relatively rural area just outside of HZ, right in the middle of where the best Longjing tea are grown. Hopefully, with the hectic schedule in the later half of this year, I'll still have enough time to check out the surrounding areas and good hidden scenic spots, as both Huangshan and Jinhua are only 2-3hrs away via the new superhighways. Not to mention is that, being in the countryside with very limited light pollution, I'll finally get a chance to shoot some night sky photog, something I've been dying to do since my Bali wedding photog trip in May last year.

back to HK for 2 weeks now, and it's been hectic, both at work and with another 3 upcoming trips, another very short CS trip coming mid July and another family one early September helping my sister babysit her kids while taking them shopping in Tokyo.

Our hike into Tai-O was moved to June 7th due to rain on the previous scheduled date, but this time it was extremely hot, with almost no clouds, and then rain coming suddenly when we were waiting for sunset, so it was an unlucky day for all 6 of us, although we did see some spectacularly fist-sized spiders which was cool.

i have 2 out of 5 days in Hangzhou uploaded now, and should have the other 3 up very soon. hopefully after this, I can get started working on the Tai-O photos and the June 4th Planet Battle(a type of MMA kickboxing tournament) photos.

Concept Studio in Hangzhou baby! We've already been to the lovely Wuzhen and Suzhou yesterday and took lots of good pictures. Weather's fairly haze so it's mostly a blurry white, but so far there's no rain so we're all glad. After a late night watching the European Finals this morning (finished at 4:35am!!) and joyous with elegant Baca's sportmanship defeating the practically barbaric Man U team. We won't be staying in Hangzhou but retain our original scheduled trip to Thousand Islet Lake.

Bali photos up! I've found my cool heaven in Abashiri. Now I've found the hot paradise that's Bali. All photos with the wedding family will not be online for privacy issues. Once they have provided me with necessary permissions, I'll upload a few.

Hike coming this weekend, I hope to get some nice pics of airplanes as we'll be traveeling along a path that's directly across a small channel from the end of the HKIA's runway, then into a small water town(大澳) in hopefully in time for sunset and dinner.

Tuesday will be Concept Studio's 2nd long trip, not counting this recent Bali job. Heric, Henry, Henry's girlfriend Ada and myself will be heading to Hangzhou and surrounding areas for 5 days during the Tuen Ng Festival(May 28) long weekend. We'll forgo the HK annual dragonboat races this year, but hopefully we might see some in Hangzhou's wetlands if we decide to go that way.

finally got a chance to upload some missing galleries from 07 and 1st quarter of 08. i'm making some new edits on them, because most photos prior to mid 08 are jpeg only, so i'm doing a few adjustments to push up the colour information, hopefully, that'd means a slightly stronger vibrancy, saturation without going too overboard.

Concept Studio is still full steam ahead, and work isn't lacking from my full time job, so I'm trying to balance between all that as well as still putting in a bit of game time. Everything is going well so far in the year of the Cow for this Taurus.

back from Hokkaido. overall a very exciting trip and a LOT of wonderful photos taken. unfortunately, the worst thing happened. my PMP was lost on the airplane, and about 2000 photos (mine and a travelmate's) went missing along with it, mainly our trip to Asahiyama Zoo, with the penguin walk and stuff... I'm offering a $5000HKD reward for the recovery of my PMP, a Vosonic VP8860 (250GB HD), as long as all the files inside are still intact or recoverable.

last day of class with Felix So this upcoming monday. it's going to be a little empty not having class to look forward to monday nights, but then, he's coming along on the Hokkaido trip so... YAY! we all love sushi, YAY! i'm a little overexcited about the trip, mostly because it took me over 2 months to plan a 4 day trip to excellent places with minimum costs, obviously to conserve for splurging rights when we arrive at any location with great seafood... oh, tuna, sea urchins and salmon eggs, i'ma gonna come put chu all in ma belly!

deleted a few duplicated older galleries, which killed my daily hits for 2 days, now it's getting back to normal, i hope google's spiders will come around soon to pick up on the edits.

also, working with some photog friends to start a club in Hong Kong, we've gone on a few short local trips, and will be working on expanding to membership based amateur model shoots. our temp website ishttp://concept.moxfactor.com/ i'll keep working on it to keep it simple, but make it a lot more elegant than it is right now.

made some UI alterations. bought a 2x teleconverter. loving it. spending hours on end scanning old film photos from my starter EOS Rebel back in the mid 90's.

also, stopped watermarking the photos with borders and such. i've decided they're quite useless considering the low quality of the photos i upload here. i shrink images down to 700 length + 72dpi + jpeg quality 9 of 12. this will not detract from web thieves but at least it no longer detracts from the viewing of the photos and is a lot less work on my end because i have yet to find a way to automate the process for pictures of different sizes.

this statement is one of several damn good reason why I stick with PBase. although i shoot mainly outdoor photography, i would hate to be banned or have certain photos removed because some people find a nipple immoral.

eg. Youtube. Kimbo Slice(a backyard brawler) was made famous beating people up on camera, while you cannot find a naked body anywhere on Youtube.

working slowly, i'm finally able to start working on this site again, hopefully within the next few weeks i can get a more streamlined site going, narrowing down the selection of photos to something i'd be proud of showing, rather than batch processing and uploading everything that isn't out-focused.

also tonight will be my 2nd day in class, learning more about photography from the amazing Felix So (prodigal student of the great Balsara and Raymond Li). hopefully one day i will become capable of producing gallery-worthy art.

on the other hand, probably won't be travelling much this year until probably after the Olympic summer, since workload is only getting heavier and heavier. I'll try to get around to taking more photos locally, in HK and Macao.

30+ buds of the White Epiphyllum (曇花, Moonflower, Orchid Cacti, ...) are opening these few days, occasionally... i got a few shots at around 4am a few nights ago. it was completely dark and i had a hard time getting the focus right... see photo above.

posted yet another reason(actually, 3) that keeps me from updating photographs. i'm an avid gamer, and usually gaming comes before any other hobbies, so until i move back to Hong Kong sometime next year, new stuff might be a bit slow, since photo editing takes a long time for me, and i already don't have enough energy to do even more photo editing offwork. however, D300 is coming out soon, which means i can finally get a 2nd body. yay!

sorry for the delay, i have been taking pictures lately, just not much to go on and several projects have been keeping me busy from photo-editing time...

as you can see from that 1 new photo(what a lazy guy!), Macao's Venetian is opening tomorrow (Aug 28) and i was just there taking a few shots with my new LX2 (my regular equipment is setup at home and i didn't want to lug it out there, 31 degrees isn't so hot, but the recent storm activities makes it easy to be out of breath).

oh ya, i gave my LX1 to my niece who was here to visit and i bought an LX2 as a replacement. My sister bought herself an FX100. Panasonics make really good "idiot-cams" (direct translation of cantonese "傻瓜機", use UTF-8 encoding if you can't see the chinese characters properly).

D300 is about to come out, and I've already been saving up for the D200 for a while(very slowly, mind you), so when it does come out in the fall, i should be able to finally afford a 2nd body...

I'm also considering of completely rebuilding this site from base up, because there's a lot of text encoding errors when i started out using Big5 then later switched to Unicode. however, i'm reluctant to do so until i've figured out how to keep all the valuable comments from everyone. until then, i'm still working on my own website, and it should be ready around the end of this year. Hopefully by then, I'll be able to have a more easily controlled offline way to standardize and edit my galleries, because as of yet, PBase is unable to do so, and living in Macao and occasionally heading into China, editing online takes a LONG time to refresh pages, thumbnails, etc...

thx for all the support and i'll try to upload a new batch from Venetian and Hong Kong's Ocean Park as soon as possible...

just finished updating my setup, and fixed some utf-8 encoding problems...
and i still can't find out with this current css template, how i can get cell spacing to work...right now the "My Setup" table has cell padding 4, cell spacing 4, but there are no spaces between rows... not to mention the and spacing are all messed up.

css is a pain, said in defense of my inability to learn the higher functions of html. i wish fixing up this place doesn't require programming knowledge of any kind. it took me 5 years between high school and college to learn that i have "programnesia". however, i've a strange knack for messing around in hexadecimal. but that's from many years of hacking Mac games back in the mid 80's well into the 90's, go figure...

happy CNY! (Chinese New Year) Woof Woof!!

now that all the hectic rush to finish the previous year's work is over, i can get back into photography again. went back to HK for a few days, but in total took like 2 photos at a restaurant, I've got a bunch of photos of fireworks to sort out, new years eve was crazy, it felt like we were going into a cool looking war with all the fireworks going off everywhere. i think i was unable to sleep for 3 nights with all the noise... anyways, i'm working on some ads for the restaurant and during spare time working on sorting photos and touch ups. should have some new stuff soon.

oh, and my old laptop died around early december, and i got myself a X50 for replacement. just go Adobe CS a few days ago so i can actually do some photo fixing without Fireworks, which is useful for some basic design work but nothing else.

Our company here in HZ has just acquired the title we trademarked in HK(老正興), and because it's a government reserved name in HZ as well, the process took far too long. We're still in the process of going to every single gov't sector, utilities, print house to get everything changed to the "new" name, so for the past 2 months and the next few weeks, I'm still fairly unable to get online much, not to mention surf PBase and keep it updated. I'll try to at least post a few photos from the LX1 in the next few days as the work gets less hectic. I'll also try to schedule an early december trip back to HK for some long overdue shopping and relaxing.

BTW, thx everyone for all your support and comments. Once most of the gruntwork is done at the restaurant, i'll try to slim down the photos a bit more as I know there are far too many unnecessary (read: eye hurting) photos here.

stayed 1 more day in Dalian due to the typhoon in Hangzhou. got a chance to try taking shots where humans are the subject. (i have a hard time getting the right lighting and pose for human subjects)

continuing on adding more photographs. i try to add 1 old and 1 new at a time, due to time constraints and due to the extremely slow net access between China and the rest of the world. there are still at least 15 more galleries I haven't uploaded yet, and i just took another batch of photos in the last few days.

I've also made a new copyright image, this time a bit more colourful but a bit more space. Because mostly it's just a deterrant from non-consensual borrowing, I prefer the corner mark over the frame, even if the frame looks a lot better.

as you may have noticed, i've been regularly updating the site with some new and some old photos. just been working on some retouching jobs. i'm still badly in need of a 50mm lens as i keep finding the photos taken by the kit lens lacking depth. i'll probably go get one soon if i can find a reliable shop in china.

I've been back to HK for 3 days to pick up some items for the restaurant, which strangely coincides with my reservations at the mini theater for Star Wars 3. ^_^ Anyways, didn't have time to look at camera stuff, but instead picked up a multi-purpose lens for the hell of it until i get some time to go parts shopping.

lens is a:
Sigma 28-300mm F3.5-6.3 Compact Hyperzoom.

brief review...
PRO: picture quality is ok at all ranges, less 'rounded' edges than the kit lens.
CON: loud as hell when focusing, all Sigma zooms have a very sticky spring making the zoom hard to manoeuver, whenever it's attached, my D70 stays forever at F6.3, I've yet to figure out why. Switching the lens' F-stop above F3.5 will result in "F EE" error.

anyways, it does it job for now as i have a barely useable Macro and semi-Tele lens.

It's been a while since there are any updates, my family's new restaurant will be opening in a few days(Apr 30) and I have had almost no sleep for over a month. I should have more time in a few weeks when everything is settled down. Hopefully I'll be able to finish posting all the remaining photos from around the CNY period.

In the mean time, I'm hoping I'll get a chance to photograph ex-Chinese heads Jiang Zemin and Li Peng. They've supposedly scheduled a visit to Hangzhou around early May, but I'm unsure if there will be anything public scheduled.

i'm redoing the entire gallery. So for the moment you might see a lot of photos missing. unfortunately I think this also means many of the comments will be deleted, but i think in the end the site will look a lot cleaner and less cluttered with crappy photos.

the new photos are in the gallery "Selection by Date". I'll throw all photos in there from here on, and then redistributing them into individual galleries.

I've been working on the new batch of photos, and it's taking a while, because I have so many photos I have a difficult time picking the best ones to show. Ya, I'm still mostly a snapshot photographer, because the way I see it, many times it's just impossible to capture the moment if you take time to fidget with all the controls before you take that 1 shot, and with a digital camera, I can take several with different quick settings adjustments and go back to pick the best ones when i'm on a computer. Mainly what I change between shots are ISO, WB, Aperture, and Speed, to which ISO is impossible to change so easily on a film camera. However, with currently only 1 lens for the D70, I'm having some problems with pictures of snow (fast + dark), and close up shots (req. macro lens, the kit lens' closest range is about 18").

Also having problems with how NEF files turn out, I prefer shooting in Fine JPEG because they're easier to manipulate with Photoshop afterwards. If anyone have any ideas on how to do this, I'd be very grateful as I keep hearing about the pros shooting in NEF and I see how wonderful their shots turn out. (in terms of color, sharpness, etc...)

I've been working far too much and have too little time to do the post processing work on the photos this month. i promise to do this very soon as things have just started to slow down. I'm working in Hangzhou right now, and the work is slow due to SNOW! yes Hangzhou is snowing for the first time this winter. So, including this, it's my 3rd time seeing first snow land in a place. (before was Dalian and Noboribetsu)

I've added a photo just taken from outside my hotel window in Hangzhou.

update: 2004-11-09: added over 100 Megs of new photos. added this Updates section. added a selective gallery of my better photos.

update: 2004-11-07: been over a month since last update. RL work has been taking over, and I'm just constantly on the move. It's 4am and i just finished fixing another batch of photos. There's still some sorting to do and I'll upload the Sept. 12th to 25th set as soon as I can.

update: 2004-09-25: selected and uploaded all photos related to the Japanese trip. I'll be working on my new Manchuria set when I have more time next week. (and hopefully on a much faster connection back in Hong Kong.

update: 2004-09-15: working on over 500 new pictures from my Japan trip. Should be up in another couple of days. thx everyone for being so patient. I think I'll need to upgrade my pbase account size again, but it's worth every penny to get so many RL praises. thx all.
