Having decided it is safer for me to be out there in the company of other like-minded humans, I was there at noon
on this bright, early autumn day (whereas left to myself, I would have chosen morning or evening, for the light).
Both the fern-bush and the Utah juniper have gone to fruit, and papery remains of dozens of other plants are the only reminders
of the lush displays of spring.
