So what is this big deal about the Drake Passage? The Drake
Passage is the body of water between the southern tip of
South America and Antarctica, specifically the South
Shetland Islands but including the Antarctic Peninsula.
The ocean currents circle unimpeded around Antarctica and
squeeze a huge flow of water into the constriction between
South America and Antarctica. The water may be calm one day
but the next day, well, search YouTube for Drake Passage.
