Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes

Death Valley, CA

The Death Valley basin is part of Death Valley National Park, a huge 5000+ square mile
arid region on the California-Nevada border. Known as the hottest and driest national
park, Death Valley's landscape is a result of a long and complex geologic history.

The sand dunes take on interesting shapes in the early morning and late afternoon
when the sun is low; at mid-day, the dunes appear as just a pile of sand.
Saltbush (yellow) and the creosote bush (green) survive in the sand.
