There's this old abandoned barn in the field across the road from here. Been there for over 150 years, endured the 4 seasons year after year ... the old outside is like the wood on this shot. People have offered a lot of money to get that outside wood, used in decos of expensive homes etc. but ... was never sold, for a special reason, it has an acquired right to be (deed), anyone could renovate it into whatever they dream of ... should it be taken down, so is the right to build on that land (zoned agricultural land, highly restricted, no construction at all, nothing. The land is kept for the future generations so they have someplace to grow their food and install future farms. Who knows what the next 100 years will be like ... if there is 100 years to come! At least, somewhere (Quebec has a lot of those old farms and passed the laws to keep those lands, zoned agricultural lands), there will be virgin lands to grow food. To encourage the owners of those lands, on which they can't do anything, (other than planting X-Mas trees!), they pay next to nothing in taxes for those lands.
