Skouik, skouik ... that's the sound that cheese makes as you bite into it!
It comes in two format, as a small brick and as curds. It started here in Quebec a few years ago, something we call Poutine. It then spread all over Canada and now, it even makes most restaurants, McDonalds etc. Poutine is simply French fires, on which you add a generous amount of those cheese curds, then smother it all with BBQ sauce. Various cheeses are used outside Quebec but here, it HAS TO BE that brand that makes 'skouik skouik' as you bite. It became a national dish and everyone, old and young, has it on a regular basis. It's all the same but the BBQ sauce differs from place to place. Chefs have also invented other variations, like spaghetti sauce instead of the BBQ one, some add meats to it, cut sausages etc.
You may also notice that in Canada, ALL products HAVE TO be packaged using both official languages, French and English.
