Coachwhip or Red Racer Snake

in the garden

I was out taking pictures of the little Tomatoes on my plants! when I was leaving and opened the gate this little snake zipped over my sneeker Eeeeek "that's the sound I made" when I looked up there was a Roadrunner hot on his trail .
This is what I think happened ! The Roadrunner had the snake! "you can see the bite" when I stood up "yes I had been sitting to get my shot " and opened the gate I surprised the Roadrunner and she dropped the snake! the snake in his mad dash to freedom didn't even notice me . I had no time to worry about how the camera was set, so switched it to auto and captured a couple of the snake catching his breath . All I can say is Im sure glad that snake didn't come zipping by or over me while I was sitting !

Very handsome fellow and a great catch, good job getting rid of the fence. I would have stuck around longer & tried for more shots, but then again I am not afraid...seehttp://www.pbase.com/cits_4_pets/image/96630461

What a great catch for such a quick happening. He is beautiful. Glad you saved him, although I know the road runner has to eat. :)

Excellent catch! Poor snake though with that injury.

This looks like the same snake I saw last week Sal, a Red Coachwhip!
http://www.pbase.com/pooh4jvn/image/99254464 Too bad you could not have gotten the roadrunner with the snake in his mouth! Do you ever worry about your dogs and rattlesnakes?
