An experiment with a vintage workhorse of a strobe unit, the Nikon SB-11. This flash unit next to a sizable SLR makes you look like a photojournalist (or paparazzi)! With an 8 second recycle time and enough light to guide a ship safely to harbor, it was a mainstay of Nikon F3 photography. The lens, a Nikkor 55mm f3.5 Micro was mounted on the camera and did a fine job, though I wouldn't recommend it for portraiture. Vintage glass and vintage flash work great on the D3! Thanks to Denise for putting up with the blinding flashes!

Musthave been funny because it's quite a big flash gun. Very nice portrait, the old gear still works fine

Nice photo of a happy lady! I bet the battery life isn't the best on that old flash.

Could it have looked that funny? Really soft shadow edges for a single light.
