This tower, nicknamed the "cuckoo tower", formerly carried a directional light. It was deactivated in 1995 after changes in the ship channel made it obsolete. There was fear that the property would be sold, but instead an automatic weather station was installed next to the old light, and the lighthouse has been maintained for its historical value.
