Forging a New China
Nanjing, China September 2007

I was clear in our visit throughout China that is is a country of entrepreneurs and in a way of anarchy. This flame was being used to melt metal. It was being done right along the street. A controlled country with a surprisingly wide range of unregulated activity.

Powerful image. China's flame reaches a new intensity. An omen???

The flames appear to be eating up the bicycle's metal. Such a violent image! Also dramatic!

The flames seem to be consuming the bike here. It was so incongruous to see a blaze like this on a city street.
