I asked the ranger about the things left in the graveyard. He said that coins are a part of the tradition, that there is an area in the graveyard that is honoring children and people often leave toys. He, also, told of a tradition for multiple generations of detainees to visit the grounds and the older generation shows their children and grand-children where their housing was. They will often find shards of pots and plates and then the family will take them to the cemetery and place them there. This is one of those chards.
