As you noted in your comment on my photo of the same sign (http://www.pbase.com/pnd1/image/103634644 ) " one wonders where the first hand is."
You placed greater emphasis on the sign than I did, playing it against the foliage -- a veritable "green thumb" metaphor. I pull back to include the strong contrasts in light, as well as the geometry of the second hand store itself. Same subject, but entirely different approaches.
It's interesting how the image of a hand can suggest or mean such a variety of things. It could suggest a handshake of friendship, a wave hello or goodbye or even suggest spanking as punishment for unruly behaviour (something I can relate to from my earlier years). The words 2nd Hand further suggest an offer to help someone especially as it is isolated in a forest of greenery.
