The rock formations of the Alabama Hills provide a visual anchor for clouds that seem to be drifting to a vast unknown. This dramatic tension works so well in black and white.

What comes to mind when I look into this image is that song title "On a clear day you can see forever". The clouds reaching into the distant horizon seem to indicate infinity of a spectacular day, only broken briefly by the line of rock formations on the ground.

The tonalities in the clouds are spectacular, and the rhythmic diminishing cloud forms make the sky seem to be moving just as the rock formation seems to put the landscape itself into motion.
