The towns we visited or passed through were relatively isolated. Two of them were having celebrations which divided the town into color sections and the homes and businesses decorated with their colors. This was from the red section.

Not only is this a fun image, it also gives us a slice of Icelandic life.

Rural Icelanders probably cherish primary colors because their environment is so stark -- the colors help compensate by adding man-made energy.
