Tailor's Floormat
Tra Vihn, Vietnam, January 2008

Our guide, Tony, suggested that we stop at wedding. Interestingly, none of my pictures from the wedding made the final cut. But a young lady at the wedding suggested that we visit her family. Her mother is a tailor. I liked this floor mat made of scraps of cloth. These folks graciously let us wander around their house for about an hour.

I love this image -- very much the story of Vietnam. Nothing is wasted, and the sandal gives it human context. I find it fascinating that both of us scrapped our wedding pictures. We were, for a while at least, very honored guests, which made it a bit difficult to blend into the woodwork and make meaningful pictures. I loved our visit to the wedding guest's house, and my shot of her mother's seamstress trainee made my cut (http://www.pbase.com/image/91825895 )
