Every weekend in Copacabana, on the Bolivian side of Lake Titicaca, cars, buses and trucks gather in front of the cathedral for a "cha'lla" (ritual offering) to the Virgen of Copacabana. To gain her protection, vehicles are decked out in garlands of plastic or real flowers, incense is burned and alcohol is poured over the tyres and hoods. Priests bless the seats. This is a solemn occasion for everyone involved, as well as a successful local industry.
