Belize is something of an oddity : a former British colony situated South of Mexico, to the East of Guatemala, with just 250,000 inhabitants and 3 roads, it is the only English-speaking country in Latin America. With the flavour and relaxed vibe of a Caribbean island, it has a bewildering mix of people - Creoles (descendants of African slaves and British pirates), Mestizos (of mixed European and Central American Indian ancestry), Maya, Garifuna, German Mennonites, Chinese, all speaking different languages and living together in harmony.
