The "Kermode Bear" is what the First Peoples referred to as the "Spirit Bear."
It's an unusual color variation of the American Black Bear, found only in the
coastal forests of B.C. Colors that the bear has been documented in include black,
chocolate-brown, cinnamon, blue-grey, white, and pink. Not hard to see why they
choose these guys as the inspiration for the "Spirit Bears" art project.
