He personally led the counterattack that drove the Allied troops from the high ground on August 10; his pocket watch was carried in a breast pocket and was destroyed by shrapnel, probably saving his life.

Why is it called the "Atatürk" memorial when his name was Mustafa Kemal? Hmmm...
