We arrived in Selçuk just ahead of a thunderstorm. The tractors here were Massey-Ferguson. The farmers drive them right into town and park on the streets.
Ephesus is probably the best-preserved ancient city (ruins) in existence. The location of the city actually moved as wars, earthquakes, and other factors would necessitate moving. So the ruins are pretty spread about. Although there was a settlement here before Alexander the Great's time (he died 323 BC), it was after his death that the settlement gained significance. In the Roman era it was the capitol of the province of Asia (not nearly as big as the continent, but being a capitol still meant a certain prominence).
