Twin Falls
The area surrounding the Buffalo National River has numerous waterfalls. This one was a short walk from the parking area, but driving to it was a challenge. Very steep rough roads were hard on the brakes and the suspension. A sign warned us about stopping and letting the brakes cool down, DO IT! High water added the third falls, under normal circumstances, there are only 2 falls thus the name Twin Falls

Parker-Hickman Farm
Our quest for Lilly Falls led us to this historical site. We finally found the falls on the way out. In looking for these different sites it pays to gather as much information from the park people as possible and do not expect to see very many signs. The locals have different names for the sites and you can definitely get confused. So some back tracking is going to happen, so allow extra time and gas

Trumpeter Swan
The wildlife people acquired these swans from Iowa. They do not migrate, so they are permanent residents of the Mill Pond in Boxley Valley.

All I can say is that "You have to eat here".

Lost Valley
Another subject that draws attention are the old buildings in the area. These buildings are on private property, so respect the owners property. We did not find much historical info on most of the buildings, but if you inquired with the locals they sometimes could give you some background information. The one exception was the Parker-Hickman Settlement, which we stumbled on when we were lost looking for a waterfall, the park had info plaques at this site. Get maps!! Maybe that's why they call this area LOST VALLEY.

Double Rainbow
We were in Jasper AR when this storm hit us. Rain, Snow and Hail and then a Rainbow. This area of Arkansas is very scenic. We plan on returning this fall in conjunction with the turning of colors.

No name Falls
These falls were along Highway 7 between Harrison and Jasper. There was a pullout but no signage. This route is listed as the Jasper Disaster in a handout for motorcycle riders. Circular route from Harrison to Jasper through Boxley Valley back to Harrison is 56 miles with 316 curves. You have to pay attention to your driving

Elk Herd
This band of elk were close to the road for easy viewing. The road crosses the Buffalo River here and if you are lucky enough, you may get some shots of the elk crossing the river. We weren't!

Yearling
A gravel road led us to these animals in the timber

Mill Pond Herd
This group had some larger bulls, but they were camera shy.
The younger animals would come close if you stayed in your vehicle, see our Arkansas Elk gallery
