Hey Tony, call the hotel and ask for the Neighborhood Rate. That's what they just told me to tell everyone is to ask for the Neighborhood Rate and you should get the $99 rate. I usually don't do these block prices because the hotels can never get it set up to work with out some kind of hassle. Thanks and let me know if there any more issues. Mike Moats

Hi Mike I signed up for your Macro conference to be held in Minnetoka Minnesota in Sept. 2015 and have called to reserve a room at the hotel where it is to be held but was told that they are not aware of this conference to be held there and that several people had been calling for the same reason and to reserve a room such as myself. So can you tell me if this has been straightened out so I may proceed with my reservation in time?I have called and asked for Miriam whom doesn't answer the phone left a message with my phone no# and have not received a called as of yet. Hope to hear from you on this . Thank you.

Larry that is a great system, and one that I use. The Tamron 18-270 is a great overall lens which will allow you to focus areas as small as 2 inches by 3 inches, so it will work as a close-up lens, but for true macro in the 1:1 ratio, which is now focusing as small as 7/8th of an inch by an inch and a 3/8ths. If you need to get into macro range, then by a true macro lens. You can also add extension tubes with your 18-270 which will also allow you to focus into the macro range.

Hey GM, some people have come to the workshops with point and shoots. Most have DSLR cameras with macro lens and tripod. There is no mandatory camera equipment required. If you have no equipment you can come just to learn what need to buy, and as far as brands, they all do a good job for macro.

Hey Chuck, I always like to recommend a longer focal length macro lens like the Tamron 180mm but the cost is over seven hundred dollars, and the longer focal lengths in the Canon or Nikon are double that. If the Tamron 18 is out of the price range then I suggest the Tamron 90mm macro which after rebates you can get for $425. Good luck with whatever you decide and hope to see you in Dallas.

Hey Paula, the teleconverter will increase the focal range of the macro lens, so if you have a 100mm macro with a 2X converter then you will be using a 200mm macro lens. Not all lenses will work with teleconverters, so go to the local camera store to try one on with the lens and the camera to make sure it all works together. The more expensive teleconverters have better glass so it's recommended that you go with the Nikon or Canon which are more costly, but from what I understand they do a much better job for the images. I've also been told to use the 1.4X teleconverters, as they work better then the 2X, but I have not had any experience with either as I don't use them. If your friend has a brand other then Nikon or Canon, then they will have to check and see if their camera brand has a teleconverter system for their camera, and if not go with the Kenko Teleconverters.

Enjoyed your presentation to the Pikes Peak camera club. Stopped at Mueller State Park and took a couple of pictures pbase.com/sirwood/foliage2011. I will take a tripod next time.

Mike, I was impressed by your work at the Ann Arbor Art Fair. I couldn't decide between your print of the Oregon anemone, or a leaf shot. Hi Mike Moats, Your book is now in my home, and it is ENCOURAGING and MOTIVATING! Somehow in the last year with various online photography classes a passion for the Macro side of life has been ignited in my heart and soul. At 65 I am not going to start a business probably, but the insight into the mysteries of life things and the details therein are absolutely filling me with "a new look at life". It is an indescribable happening! We are told to" stop and smell the roses". I feel like the Lord said, "Come closer." And I did. I will. I am. Thanks for you. Mike, I was present at your talk at the Northville Camera Club last week. I have a great appreciation for your work and will try to mimic some of the techniques that you described. Thanks so much for coming to our club. The main reason that I am writing this note is to inform you a relatively new piece of software that I have. I think you would love to try it. I think it would lend itself to your work in a very good way. Maybe you have already herd of it. The name of the software is ADOBE Lightroom. It can be used in conjunction with Photoshop, or photoshop elements. It has many great features that are easier to use than in Photoshop.
