Bodie Island Lighthouse3

Just got to wonder what kind of insensitive beaurocrat would pick an ugly red plastic fence to surround a national monument like this and ruin any attempt to get a good photograph of it. I can only hope it's temporary. Photographed on Cape Hatteras, North Carolina's Outer Banks, USA.

I live in Virginia Beach and travel the Outer Banks for a hardware distributor. I have a number of shots of this lighthouse. In the last couple of years, the National Park Service, which maintains the Bodie Island Lighthouse, has put this ugly orange safety fence around the lighthouse because it is deteriorating and chunks of concrete and mortar have fallen from the structure. It is a safety measure but it doesn't give you the best rendition of the lighthouse. Here is a photo I took three years ago in Januaary 2003 when there was a rare snowfall on the Outer Banks. I drove to the Outer Banks the day after it snowed and I took this picture, before the orange fence was put around the lighthouse.
